ACCESSIBILITY

Thorvaldsens Museum is an older building with many stairs. Unfortunately, this means that conditions for wheelchair users are not ideal.

The museum does not have an accessible entrance or elevator between its three levels. However, it is possible to visit the museum in a wheelchair if one or more companions can assist the guest with lifting the guest and chair from street level into the museum and, if necessary, between floors. Museum staff are also happy to assist.

Admission

Visitors with disabilities may bring one companion free of charge.

Parking

There is a single disabled parking space at Bertel Thorvaldsens Plads. This parking spot is reserved for vehicles with a valid disability permit.

Toilets

Unfortunately, the museum does not have accessible toilets.
We refer visitors to the nearby public and free accessible toilet at:
Ved Stranden 18A, 1061 Copenhagen K.

Wheelchairs

The museum has a lightweight wheelchair available for loan, which can be used by guests on the ground floor. It is also possible to visit the museum using a personal wheelchair, provided one or more companions can help bring the guest and wheelchair from street level into the museum and, if needed, between floors.

Guests with blindness or low vision

Guests with blindness or low vision are allowed to touch selected marble works if they wear cotton gloves. These guests must be accompanied by a sighted person who can help identify which sculptures may be touched. Cotton gloves can be borrowed at the museum’s ticket counter. Visitors are also welcome to use our audio guide, which can be accessed via their own phone or borrowed at the museum.
