EXHIBITION OPENING:
BHARTI KHER – MYTHOLOGIES
August 22, 4 pm – 7 pm
Join us in celebrating the opening of the largest exhibition ever held at the Thorvaldsen Museum, with wine in the courtyard and ample opportunity to experience the show.
Are there multiple versions of our innermost self? What is identity? And what role do time, mythology, and transformation play in shaping the way we understand – and have understood – the world?
Are there multiple versions of our innermost self? What is identity? And what role do time, mythology, and transformation play in shaping the way we understand – and have understood – the world?
These are some of the questions Bharti Kher invites us to reflect upon in her first solo exhibition in Denmark.
The opening is is free, and everyone is welcome.
Among the highlights in the exhibition is a five-metre-tall bronze sculpture The Intermediary Family, gazing into the museum from the courtyard, and a brand-new work, Iris, created especially for the Thorvaldsen Museum exhibition.
In the Grand Hall, you can see the monumental sculpture The hot winds that blow from the West, consisting of 131 old cast-iron radiators from the first decades of the industrial era, while casts and hybrid figures inhabit the smaller galleries.
All 27 sculptures in the exhibition are presented in dialogue with Thorvaldsen’s famous works and the museum’s exceptional architecture.
