Thorvaldsen and Music

What was the music that Thorvaldsen listened to while living and working in Rome? The CD "Thorvaldsen and Music" contains music from Thorvaldsen’s own notebooks and music we are sure Thorvaldsen knew.

Listen to music by composers such as Cimarosa, Donizetti and Rossini – and even one composition that we are fairly sure Thorvaldsen himself composed.

The singer on this CD is Inger Dam-Jensen, accompanied by Christina Åstrand (violin), Dorthe Dreyer ( viola), Hans Nygaard (cello), Toke Lund Christiansen (flute) and Ingolf Olsen (guitar).

Ingolf Olsen has an extensive knowledge of music in Thorvaldsen’s day and in the booklet accompanying the CD he has written an extensive account of Thorvaldsen’s musical interest and music in Rome during the period of 40 years when Thorvaldsen lived and worked in the city.

The CD Thorvaldsen og musikken was originally issued in 1994 in connection with the first Golden Days festival in Copenhagen. It is now being re-issued with support from the Oticon Foundation.
