Few guitarists have been able, as Niclas Knudsen has done, to extend their playing to so many jazz styles while at the same time preserving a strong and personal idiom. The flagship Ibrahim Electric – Denmark’s leading organ trio, Radio Timbuktu, the legendary band When Granny Sleeps and Jungle Breed are all ensembles on which Knudsen has placed his quite special musical fingerprint.
With him he has the rock solid and experienced bassist Jesper Lundgaard, whose merits are almost too long to recount.. Lundgaard is one of the most frequently used bass players – not only in Denmark, but also internationally – and he is renowned for his unwavering groove and equilibrist solos. This Sunday the decree from on high is “strictly strings”.

Mads La Cour & Magnus Hjorth play the album “Diane” (Chet Baker & Paul Bley)
Without hesitation the two young musicians said yes to giving their interpretation of the modern classic “Diane” from 1985, which Chet Baker and Paul Bley recorded for the Danish company Steeplechase. Hereby we are continuing together with Thorvaldsens Museum the tradition that was started during the summer festival, in which a number of Danish musicians gave their versions of selected classical jazz albums.
Since receiving the P2 Jazz Prize in 2007 the trumpet player Mads La Cour has played his way onto the Danish jazz scene in record time. Besides his own group, which in 2009 was awarded a Grammy for “The New Name of the Year” for the CD “…a la Cour”, he is a member of ensembles like QUARTz, Niels Ryde Kvartet, Anders Mogensen’s Gifted Youth and Thomas Blachman’s new group “The Pulse”, as well as being a permanent member of the trumpet section in the Danish Broadcasting Corporation’s Big Band. Magnus Hjorth is active on both the Danish and the Swedish jazz scenes and besides performing with his own trio also plays with Malene Mortensen, The Orchestra, Sidsel Storm and many others. In 2007 he won the international Getxo Jazz Contest together with People Are Machines, and was also voted the best soloist by the judges and audience.

Nordsø’s musical career took off when as a 15-year-old he became part of Palle Mikkelborg’s group V8 together with, among others, Kasper Winding and Thomas Clausen. Since then Nordsø has made a major impact on the Danish music scene, for instance, as a member of the legendary band Sneakers, Anima and Bombay Hotel.
In parallel with this he has with the Mikkel Nordsø Band focused on a fusion between Latin-American music, rock and jazz. His latest venture is his partnership with harpist Tina Rehling, who has, among other things, collaborated closely with Per Nørgaard. Nørgaard has dedicated a number of his works to her. Middle Eastern rhythms and Arabian moods are interwoven with fantasy-driven lyrics and the passionate rhythm of the flamenco. A great musical experience is awaiting you!

Katrine Madsen has long since established a name for herself as one of Scandinavia’s greatest jazz vocalists, and it is something of a scoop that a fortunate few will now have an opportunity to hear her in such an intimate and intense setting.
Madsen has a dark, crisp voice and a rare inborn ability to encompass the musical space and draw her listeners into her vocal narratives. This holds true both for her own compositions and for her interpretations of classical pieces. Here there is no forcing or dramatic exaggeration.
Accompanying her Katrine has one of the pianists most in demand in Denmark, Henrik Gunde, who with spirit, empathy and drive conjures up miracles and gives presence and life to the music at one and the same time. And then he is gifted with a formidable feeling for swing. A musical jazz pearl of rare intimacy rounds off the concert of jazz brunches at Thorvaldsens Museum.
