Thorvaldsen was given the title of Konferentsraad when he arrived in Copenhagen after an absence from his native city lasting over 40 years. And some of the visiting cards that he kept in this fine case bear the inscription “Conferentsraad Thorvaldsen”. However, there is no denying the Italian connection. Three other cards in the case are inscribed “Alberto Thorvaldsen”.
