Explanation

  • It is the duty of the goddess of youth to pour the draught of immortality for the other gods. So she has been given the task of administering and distributing some very precious drops, and she is clearly concentrating on her work. But she is completely calm – the folds in her dress are almost as regular as the fluting on an ancient column. However, the myth tells us that things once went wrong. Hebe happened to spill some of the draught and was taken off the job.
