The Fates – Clotho, Lachesis and Atropos – determine fate as they both spin and cut off the life thread of all mortals. They are daughters of night, which explains the presence of an owl with outstretched wings in the relief entitled Night. The relief was made in marble 20 years after the death of Thorvaldsen after the original model from 1833, which was half the size of the present relief.
